Europon Livestock UK has recently made an agreement with Cork Marts in Ireland to work with them to source dairy stock for the UK farmer.

Cork Marts is a farmers co-op running 7 livestock markets in the south of Ireland. Located, right in the middle of one of the most densely populated dairy regions anywhere in the world, they are the perfect partners to have if you are looking for Irish dairy stock.

Most Irish dairy farms calve their cows in the spring (85%) and use low cost grazing systems.Their main breeding goals, when selecting genetics are : milk, protein percentage, cow fertility and longevity. Cow fertility, especially, has had a lot of attention in the last few years.

Most of the stock are part Holstein with a considerable percentage of Friesian blood maintained in the cows, to keep fertility and longevity in their stock. Some farmers are milking crossbreds with the main sires being Jersey, Montbeliarde and Norwegian Red.

Prices, delivered to farms in the UK are very reasonable and Europon Livestock can supply you with incalf or calved heifers and young cows. Stock like dairy heifer calves or yearlings are also available and easier to supply than from most other countries in Europe.

Don’t hesitate calling us to discuss these possibilities.
